Are they back . . .

. . .  or didn’t they in fact not leave after all

This year both swans and geese have been seen on the fields and in the lake still after Christmas. Which is very unusually. Yesterday, on the way back from the supermarket, it surprised me to see two swans in the lake. So, I wonder, didn’t they leave at all or are they already back. Do they know there will be no winter here at all. There has, so far, not been practically any snow at all. Only a few centimeters a few time. A little frost and a thin layer of ice on the lake a few times. It feels like early spring. But . . . one never knows. I remember a couple of times winter arrived in February. Which brought both freezing cold and plenty of snow. Well, whether will it be winter or not I’m so happy there is more daylight every day.

More Swans

My lucky day ! Five swans. Three of them stayed close to all of us on the shore. I think I took too many photos. So hard to decide which ones to post.

Of course I went back yesterday for more swan photos. And, probably will do so even during the next days as well. In 2017 there was a couple with a young swan which was so cute and curious. He swam towards me. His parents followed watching him carefully for him not to get too close to me.

Swan Pair & Liverleaf In White

Earlier in the spring there were many more swans here. I was able to spot several couples. Some staying on this side of the lake and others on the other side. These two are the only ones staying here now. All the others have moved northwards, I think.

On Thursday we visited my childhood friend. She told me she’s got liverleaf in white and asked me have I ever seen white ones. Yes, I said. Remember, we together found them in the woods. We probably were about 11 years old. Gosh, time flies, that was 60 years ago. I was happy to see them once again as I haven’t seen a single one since that first time. Before we left she gave me two plants. Thumbs up that they will like it here and multiply.

Swan Family

I happened to see this swan family when we were on the the way to the supermarket. Oh look, look I said. I want to shoot a couple of photos. Make a u-turn. There still is some ice on the lake but close to the shore there is water. After a while the young swan got curious and came towards me. Maybe he thought I had some kind of treats or so. After staring at me for a few seconds he returned to his parents.

Swans

The swans are back. They have been on the other side of the lake. I have been able to spot them like white dots but to hear them very well. On Tuesday (the day when Quam left us, I’m still very sad) when I came down to the beach they were here on this side, bobbing in the waves looking for food. When the other one was sticking his head in the other one kept his eyes on the surrounding, ready to warn if anything suspicious would occur.
