What a wonderful summer day at friends yesterday. Thank you so much for having us. Because it was so warm I didn’t take many pictures. Only a few of their adorable, cute, 18 year old cat and some road snapshots on the way home.
We were invited to a birthday party yesterday which actually was a matrimonial celebration. WOW ! The wedding ceremony was beautiful, emotional and lovely. Congratulations ❤
Yesterday we were at a summer party arranged by a cousin of mine. Garden party would have been lovely but as soon as everyone arrived it started to rain. We were about 20 persons. I met people I had not seen in a long time and also some I had not seen before at all. A classmate of mine recognized me but whom I couldn’t remember. Total black out. Embarrassing ! Then, on the way back home I suddenly remembered. Typical !

We were visiting our friends Thursday-Friday at their summer cottage. Good food, sauna bath, great company with a lot of talking and laughing. The day was sunny and warm but the evening a bit cold and windy, so none of us swam in the lake after the sauna bath.
When my friend and I looked at the flowers my friend spotted a beautiful colorful caterpillar. I have had photos of really beautiful caterpillars which I have had the pleasure to spot but unfortunately only once so far. It’s sad I can’t find the photos anymore 😦
For the last week and days there has been a lot about the Perseid meteor showers both in the papers and on the news. The best time to spot them would have been in the morning at about 2 am on August 12. Unfortunately it was a cloudy night. Now the night would be clear and we thought that we, with a bit of luck, would be able to still spot some. As we didn’t want to get up at 2 am we went to lay on down folding sun chairs on the terrace covered with warm blankets at about 11 pm. Our husbands didn’t join us ! ? They probably didn’t believe we would see any. Such a beautiful midnight blue starry sky. Then we saw ONE ! We both were screaming look, look. We stayed there for about 45 minutes and saw about 10-12. But afterwards I read more about them on EarthSky and on other sites as well and learned some or many may have been satellites moving with great speed. Well, next August there is again a chance to experience the Perseid meteor showers.
Yesterday morning, just before we were about to leave my friend said let’s pick some blueberries for you to take home. She’s a quick picker. Of the almost one liter I think she picked 7,5 dl and I about 1,5 dl. The smoothie we had this morning was so delicious with the fresh blueberries.

Yesterday I was in Hämeenlinna with friends. Last year when we were Tampere we decided to next time visit Hämeenlinna. We went by the 9:19 am train from Helsinki and arrived Hämeenlinna at 10:36 am.
We walked to the center to have coffee at Cafe Laurell. The café/the bakery took part in the competition Finland’s Best Bakery. They were in the finals and became second. I had in mind to have coffee and a rye bread sandwich. But, as soon as I saw all slices of cakes, pies and cupcakes I changed my mind. Rye bread I can have at home. After the coffees and goodies it was time to continue to The Häme Castle.
The main attraction for our trip. The castle was built in the end of the 1200s and the beginning of the 1300s. At 1 pm there was a guided tour for about 45 minutes. It was very interesting. Today there are many events. E.g. In December the St. Thomas Christmas Market. In April Easter Market in August Häme Medieval Fair. You can rent facilities for dinners, weddings etc. After the guide left we still stayed there for a short while.
We had booked a table at restaurant Piparkakkutalo “The Gingerbread House” to 3 pm. There was still plenty of time, so we were walking, walking, walking, talking, talking, talking and didn’t notice we had walked too far. Oops, now we had to hurry and find the way back . The restaurant is very popular and there were so many people, I think there was not one empty seat/table left. I had Karitsa Wallenberg. Steak made of ground lamb, served with red wine sauce, roasted root vegetables, mashed potato with goat cheese. It was yummy. We shared a bottle of wine. For dessert I had coffee and strawberry ice cream with strawberry sauce.
A look at the clock. Almost 6 pm. Time to walk to the railway station and the 6:23 pm train. Back in Helsinki at 7:41 pm. As always my hubby and Canelo were there to pick me up.
Such a nice day despite the bit chilly wind and gray skies. Good thing, it was not raining.

Almost two years since last time we visited our friends on Kimito. It was, to be exact, on 23 August 2010. The weather was nice and warm then and so it was also yesterday. We had a great day. Eeva had made a wonderful zucchini soup and a delicious blueberry pie. In the afternoon they took us on a sightseeing tour. It was very, very interesting. So many beautiful places. We couldn’t have had better guides than you two. Thank you so much dear friends 🙂

My half-sister with her husband, younger son and dog Mörri visited us on Wednesday. I today received an e-mail with these two pictures, taken by her son Leevi, attached. The day was warm, really, really warm. Before they left we all went down to the lake to let Mörri and Canelo swim. Of course it is a must to have a toy. The dogs loved it there. Canelo worried Mörri would take his toy so he had to run like a mad man to not let it happen. I love the picture of Canelo. You practically are able to feel the speed.
