@ The Red Bull Soapbox Helsinki Grand Prix 2019

Yesterday we were at the Red Bull Soapbox Helsinki Grand Prix. The 5th time in Helsinki. We were there in August 2012 when the event was arranged for the 3rd time. Two years ago we planned to go as the event again was held in Helsinki. But, something came up and we were couldn’t go. So, I was happy to, a couple of weeks ago find out the event is back. The Red Bull Soapbox Race is an international event in which amateur drivers race homemade soapbox vehicles. It was just as fun as I remembered it from the last time. Also this time there was a lot of people. Over 60 teams racing. The vehicles/the team’s out fits were crazy and others even more crazy. Anything you possible could imagine. Some vehicles were very fast, some needed to be pushed all the way down the hill, some crashed, a couple lost a tire, one had to be carried down. No matter what, everybody in good mood, smiling, laughing, cheering.

Autokulta / Dear Car

Autokulta / Dear CarAutokulta / Dear Car P8130096CCWe were in Helsinki in the beginning of this week. Outside the former Post Office building we saw the car parked. I said to my husband, look, look the car we saw a photo of in the news paper. I did not read the article only looked at the image and thought, who would want a car with holes all over it. Later I read somewhere it is a piece of art, called ‘Autokulta’ / ‘Dear Car’ by the Finnish sculptor Anna-Kaisa Ant-Wuorinen. Pretty cool, eh !

Strawberry Candy Daylily

Daylily IMG_8452CDaylily IMG_8462CDaylily IMG_8466CIn my post of yesterday I mentioned my concern it was too cold for the petals of the first Strawberry Candy daylily flower to unfold. Luckily I was wrong. It was a bit chilly in the morning and it took the flower a bit longer to unfold than usually. The afternoon was nice and warm and the flower unfolded to normal size.

More Tiger Lilies

Already so many more tiger lily flowers in bloom since the first one on August 1st. On the other hand it is a good thing the temperature is not as hot as it was still a week ago. The flowers last longer. But, it looks like it’s too cold for the Strawberry Candy lilies. The flowers are not opening in full size. I hope it will be a little bit warmer so that I will be able to take some nice photos of them too.Tiger Lilies IMG_8403CTiger Lilies IMG_8404Tiger Lilies IMG_8429CTiger Lilies IMG_8438CTiger Lilies IMG_8444C
