It was snowing yesterday. Not much but, enough to make it a bit slippery here and there. There still is some snow on the ground today but, tomorrow it’s going to rain and it will all be gone. Who knows when it will snow next time. I wish it will be for Christmas.
Last week we visited Helsinki Market Square twice. On Thursday 11th at the Herring Market which ended on Saturday. Yesterday at the Traditional Sailing Ship Day. We went there early because I thought the ships would arrive into the harbor in the morning and I would be able to shoot nice photos. But, by the time we arrived, at about 9:00 am, all already were there. I suggested we go back there in the evening when they they leave but, my husband didn’t like the idea at all. So we didn’t. October so far has been warm and nice. Yesterday it was, for mid. October, an unusually warm, + 17 degrees Celsius, sunny day.
The Helsinki Herring Market is an week long yearly event held in the beginning of October. We don’t visit it every year. But, as it was such a beautiful sunny warm fall day yesterday we decided to go. We arrived about 1:00 pm. There was a fog approaching quickly. It was impossible to see the nearby islands. As walking from the parking to the market place we saw more and more of the islands disappear into the fog. In 30 minutes it was almost impossible to see the ferries in the south harbour. Something I don’t see happen, very often, in the middle of a sunny day. I forgot all about the herring market. I only concentrated on the fog.
Time flies. Already second week of October. I love the colors and scent of the fall. After the long warm summer when it was too hot for me to go for walks I now enjoy making long daily walks again. Here are a couple of randomly inspired photo shots.
Here are some more photos from our tour to Turku/Åbo last Friday. There was a lot to see both at the Maritime museum and the ship S/S Bore. Bore nowadays is both a hostel and museum. The climb all the many, steep, narrow steps up to the museum part was pretty exhausting. But worth it. The view from the command bridge over Aura river is nice. When editing the photos at home I saw I unfortunately had cut the jib boom and the main mast when photographing the ship model of Herzogin Cecilie. A ship my father in law sailed in the end of the 20’s beginning of the 30’s.
