The Bird Chicks

Gosh, the chicks to me already look ready to leave the nest. One was sitting on a branch outside of it. I tried to get a picture of him but, the branches made it impossible to get a sharp enough one. I think there is not enough of space for all four of them anymore. In the last picture it, to me, looked like the mom was cleaned the nest from something. I wonder will they still be there tomorrow morning.

The Bird Chicks

Last night we all woke to thunder and heavy rainfall. Oh no, I said to my husband, I’m so worried about the bird babies in the apple tree. I hope the nest will not be knocked down by it. He said, go put an umbrella over them. After I had morning coffee I took my camera and went there. How happy I was to see the nest was still there and also the chicks. After my first shot, I saw through the lens, one of the parents land on the edge of the nest with a big worm in hers/his beak. Oh my gosh, I couldn’t believe, such a luck. I shot several pictures in a row hoping that at least some of them would be sharp enough to post on my blog. The one with the worm is very blurry. But, I still wanted to post it because of the huge worm. I’m so happy the birds are okay.

Baby Chicks

Four small heads and beaks.  Unlike to what I replied to a friend blogger they do not scream for food, which I thought would be the case, because the sparrow chicks under our garage roof are loud and scream loudly for food. I think they were there already on Monday afternoon when I first saw one of the parents there. They may be about a week now. I read they are ready to leave after 14-16 days. I hope I will still be able to take some more photos, some better photos of them. W’ll see.

Nesting Bird

Last night I saw a bird in a nest in an apple tree. Could it be a fieldfare (field fare) ? The tree is very close to the sidewalk just on the other side of a fence. I shot a couple of pictures but, they were no good because of backlight. I went there again today in the morning, in the hope to now when the sun light came from the back be able to get a picture or two. I only took a couple of pictures as I didn’t want to disturb the birds too much. Soon there will be leaves and more difficult to spot the nest and harder to photograph.

Hanami 2017

The Hanami Festival in the cherry park in Roihuvuori was planned to take place last Sunday, May 14. For some reason the arrangers of the event decided to changed it to a week later on May 21, today. That was a good move because had it taken place last Sunday the cherry trees had not been in bloom. Now was the most perfect day for the event. Warm, blue skies, beautiful cherry blossom and, oh my goodness, thousands of visitors. More than ever before.

Garden Day @ Axxell, Överby, Espoo

Another fantastic, gorgeous warm, +26 C., sunny day for outdoor events. We visited the Garden Day at Axxell, an annual event. There was so much to see. Flowers, garden products, ceramic artworks made by students, food stands, hobby horse competition and much more. I took way too many photos. How can I decide which to post and how many ? !

Marimekko Fashion Show

The first time we went to watch the Marimekko yearly Fashion Show in Helsinki in the Esplandi Park was two years ago, in spring 2015. Then it  was the 25th time to be held. Last year, for some reason, we didn’t go there. Today is a such a glorious, warm, sunny day for an outdoor event. Plus 26 degrees Celsius. The event is free of charge and open for everyone.

Cherry Blossom

Last year I was photographing the cherry tree in full bloom on May 7. Today we went to Lidl to shop. At home we had been talking about how beautiful the cherry tree close to Lidl was last spring. We thought it would not be in bloom yet as the spring has been pretty cold. Surprise, surprise ! In full bloom ! It is so beautiful. Two guys also were there taking photos and we talked about how amazing it is. The other one said he doesn’t think it’s a cherry tree. The other one and I looked at each other in disbelief but neither of us said anything. Either way, it is or not, I will still call it a cherry tree 🙂

Mirror Glaze Cake

Some weeks ago I was browsing the “Pirkka” magazine and saw the beautiful picture of a mirror glaze cake. I read the recipe for several times and said to my husband. I will make this cake for Mother’s Day on May 14 which also, this year, happens to be our 50-years wedding anniversary. I read the recipe very thoroughly, again and again. I wanted to avoid mistakes. Everything looked so good, even the glaze until I poured it onto the cake. I have no idea what went wrong but the glaze was too thick and looked lumpy. Not at all like the one in “Pirkka” or like the gorgeous ones I looked up on Google. My husband said, don’t worry about the look as long as it’s edible I’m happy. It was edible and pretty yummy too. But, I give up, no more mirror glaze cakes for me. At least for now 😉Mirror glaze cake / mango cheesecakeMirror glaze cake / mango cheesecake

The spring I hope . . .

The beginning of May has been unusually cold. I read it has not been this cold a spring in 60 years ! This week it was snowing Monday-Thursday. Cold or not ! It was time to take Canelo to a groomer. Good thing I did that because today was pretty warm.

Winter coat                       Summer coat

Jacky loves the warmth. The ground is dry and warm and so is the sun. He stayed out in the backyard almost all day. I went to take a couple of pictures of him. My husband shouted from the kitchen: why don’t you take a video clip. Thanks, good idea. I haven’t recorded anything yet with my new smart phone. Will be interesting to see how a video clip turns out to be. When I was recording a bird landed on a branch in the tree. My first thought was he might try to chase it. He didn’t move. He was watching with interest and said something. I think he said look mommy, look how close the bird is.
