Last Thursday when we were at Lidl (the German discount supermarket chain) I saw Clivias. They were one of my mother’s and her sister’s favorite flowers.  Of course I had to buy one.

I looked up about Clivias on Wikipedia. This is what it says: “Clivia miniata (I think mine is a C. miniata) is a species of flowering plant in the genus Clivia of the family Amaryllidaceae, native to damp woodland habitats in South Africa as well as in Swaziland. It is also reportedly naturalized in Mexico.”

My plant is small one. So far only one flower stem. Hopefully it will last for more than just a week or two. I hope it will Clivia OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAget many more stems with flowers.  We’ll have to wait and see.

Horses and Helicopter

After many gray cloudy days there’s been sunshine both yesterday and today. It’s lovely. One can already feel the spring. I don’t like to photograph when gray and dark so I was happy about the sun and bright daylight and hoped for something to shoot. We have been visiting our son, who has been in the hospital for some days. Good thing is he is going to get to come home tomorrow.

Yesterday on the way to visit him my husband suddenly said, by the way, we have not seen any horses in a long time. Guess what, on the way back home we saw three. I love horses. They are so beautiful. I said I want to take a picture or two so we stopped.

Today on the hospital parking I heard a noise. I said what on earth is that. Sounds like thunder to me. My husband immediately recognized it and said it’s a helicopter. He was right. It was a helicopter landing on the roof of the hospital. As you can see the sky is blue and not a cloud in sight.

My Amaryllis

Flower crazy as I am I couldn’t resist taking some more pictures  on the Amaryllis. It’s in bloom ! Two more buds.  This time I used “white” background. For backgrounds I use colored cardboard sheets. i think the black background, my posting Jan 14, works best. The light is a daylight fluorescent bathroom tube. My dream is to someday have a bit more professional backgrounds and lights. I have looked for some on the internet but the ones I’d like to have are a bit expensive. So for the time being I stick to my cardboard sheets and bathroom tube.
