The Printer

After all the cleaning, deep cleaning, roller cleaning, bottom cleaning, washing, checking settings my printer still does not work properly ! Of course there may be many other things too which cause the failure. The reason for not printing properly probably is that I use it much less these days than before.

Perhaps I will contact the Canon service in Helsinki. Why I’m not doing it now is I’m afraid the cost is much more expensive to get the printer checked and fixed there than to buy a new one. I need to really think what to do. I think I need a printer or . . .  do I ?

The first picture is the original, the second one I printed today.

Print Head Wash

My Canon MP560 printer has not printed colors properly in a while. I have bought new color cartridges. I have gone through all the maintenance steps like, cleaning, deep cleaning, print head alignment, nozzle check, bottom plate cleaning and roller cleaning. I have checked all the settings both for photo printing and document printing. But nix ! Every time I print the colors are not right. The printer is only three years. I love it and certainly would not want to buy a new one. Looking for hints on the web I found a video clip on YouTube how to wash your print head. So that is what I’m doing now. It’s a last, desperate attempt to get the printer to work properly. The process will take about 8 to 10 hours ! If this doesn’t help I will be very disappointed.

The Amaryllis

Three more flowers in bloom. They are so heavy that the pot fell. Luckily the flowers were not damaged so I cut the stem and put it in a vase. There actually is one more stem coming up. The first one dried. This new one looks very green and is growing fast. I hope it will bloom.
I have read about “How to make your Amaryllis bloom again” and “Year round care” Step by step. The steps are many but I think I will give it a try. Two possibilities. It either succeeds or failsP1130504CC Amaryllis

Pomegranate Smoothie

Since the summer 2013 I have practically made smoothie every morning. In my smoothies I mostly use mango, bananas, oranges, pineapples, avocados, strawberries, blueberries etc.

On Friday there were pomegranates in the supermarket. I bought two. Long ago I bought one. I, back then, after trying to get the seeds out, found it messy and  threw it all into the garbage can. I had no idea how to properly get the seeds out. That was before the internet. Now it’s easy as you can find on the web just anything you need. I looked up how to seed a pomegranate and found many useful video clips and blogs. I used the instructions of how to seed the fruit from a clip by Rocking Robin’s on YouTube.

Oops, wrong date ! Should of course read 11.1.2015 🙂

Cut the top off. Gently not to harm the seeds. Make 6-8 cuts not all the way to the bottom. Loosen the parts up little by little. Start knocking it with a wooden spoon to get the seeds out. I used just my fingers to pick them out as I didn’t want any of the white membrane into my bowl. For the smoothie yesterday I put the seeds into the blender and then used a strainer to get rid of all the tiny hard parts of the seeds. Then I poured the juice back and added frozen strawberries, bananas and Greek yogurt. Today I was lazy and used the tiny hard parts too. I have to say, in my opinion, it is much nicer without them.

What a beautiful Amaryllis we got for Christmas from good friends of ours. Thank you so much. Two flowers already in bloom and still three buds. Also there is an other stem coming up. I can see there are buds. I hope they too will bloom but I’m a little worried they will not as the buds look brownish. Maybe I have watered the plant too much or too little. Will have to wait and see.
