Three More Photos of the Lily

I know, once I start photographing flowers I simply am unstoppable. The lily of yesterday already faded and this is the lily of today. As I mentioned there’s going to be sixteen flowers. A new one every day for the next fourteen days. Ay pero, don’t worry ! ¬†I’m not going to post pictures of all of them ūüėÄ

My Catherine Woodbury Daylily

Today, it happened today ! My Catherine Woodbury Daylily, which I bought in the beginning of the summer, is in bloom. There will be¬†sixteen flowers on two stems. ¬†As it’s raining now I still am looking forward to shoot some new pictures of the flower when sun shines.¬†¬†I’m so excited ūüôā

Also the Strawberry Candy Lily, I bought last summer, is going to bloom in a week or two. I hope both will have some flowers at the same time. I’d love to shoot them in the same picture.

Last week a very kind woman gave me some lily plants from her garden. They too are really beautiful. They are ‘Brasilia Hybrid Oriental Lilies’. ¬†The white petals are delicately outlined in a soft pink. Can’t wait to see them next summer.

I now have lilies in nine different color ūüôā

Old Motorbike Event 2013 July 26-28

It is the biggest yearly nationwide old motorbike event, This time arranged by the “Stadin P√§rtsarit and VMPK Veteraanimoottoripy√∂r√§klubi”¬†at Hotel Korpilampi Espoo. Many attendats stayed for the entire weekend at the hotel which is only about eight kilometer from where we live.

Leif is a member of the VMPK Veteraanimoottoripyöräklubi club. Of course he wanted to go there to meet friends from all around the country. As I had not been there for a very, very long time I said I go too. We decided to visit the event only for one day, yesterday.

Such a wonderful, warm, sunny day. Plus twenty nine degrees Celsius. The hotel is on the top of a small hill.  The bikes all were on the big parking lot outside the hotel. They had arranged for a tractor ride up the hill and down. Am I happy we waited for the tractor as the road up was quite steep in the beginning. Would not have been an easy task for me in 29 Celsius.

Canelo hesitated for a moment before he hopped onto the trailer.

Since I have poor balance, this would be my kind of motorcycle.

After two hours I was ready to leave because it was as hot as in sauna bath up there. Walking down hill was easy.

Tall Ships Races Helsinki 2013’s Parade of Sail

What a lovely memorable event The Tall Ships Races has been. The Parade of Sail today was absolutely fantastic. The weather was great. It was a most enjoyable time to, for about four hours, watch the ships, ship by ship, slowly float by heading for their next destination Riga in Latvia.

So many stunning ships. The Mexican ship Cuauhtemoc, one of the last ones to leave, made people gasp for their breath. About 60 sailors stood up onto the yards singing mexican shanties. It was mighty. I didn’t get to see any ships in full sail but I’m fully satisfied with everything I experienced during these three days.

Here are some pictures from today. The pictures are in no particular order.

Tall Ship Race, Helsinki – Fireworks

Last night at 9 pm there was a daylight color fireworks at the Tall Ship Race. Luckily no rain after all the showers in the afternoon. Some of them really heavy ones. I’m glad we went there for the fireworks. It was nice, interesting, plenty people, really crowded, loud, the music, the ships, the fireworks.¬†

My video clip. Just listen to the music, the ships, the fireworks.

So many ships. I think I read some where there are about one hundred. When we arrived there at 9 am there was not many visitors yet. Many of the ships opened for visitors at 10 am so by then there was already thousands. I was able to visit three of the ships but had wanted to visit some more like Göteborg, Mir, Cisne Branco, Cuauhtemoc plus some others as well. The queues soon became very long. We already had strolled around there for two and a half hours and did not want to go back to the car to put some more coins into the parking meter.

The ships are leaving on Saturday. As I have never seen this big sailing ships sailing in full sail. I want to, if possible, go to see them leaving.

In the spring I bought one more kind of lily. A daylily called Hemerocallis Hybrida Chaterine Woodbury . Not really sure how to spell it as I’v seen different spellings. Anyway, I’m eagerly looking forward to see it bloom.

Blue-Green Algae

Blue-green algae Picture 463_1Last night we went down to the lake for our regular evening swim. Oh no ! There they were. The blue-green algae. No wonder the beach, usually crowded, was empty. after given it a thought, counting pros and cons, I decided to, despite all, go into the water. After all there was not yet that plenty algae. At least not as much as in 2011. The picture below. Leif was quick to comment that the algae look just like the kale smoothie I made some days ago. Hah-hah-haa. So funny. OK, he is right. Looks exactly like it. I wonder will I ever make some more kale smoothie.

Guess who was hugely disappointed. Yes, Canelo. He was so excited when we packed all the things, also his two tennis balls. We just couldn’t let him into the water as he get so much water in his mouth when swimming. He cried when we drove back home.

Blue- green algaeYup, in 2011 it was really bad. I wouldn’t have gone into the water for any money.
