A Rainy Day

Wooohooo . . . I’m on vacation so we will take a tour in the camper. We had planned to leave in the morning but . . . as it was raining we decided to wait till tomorrow instead hoping there would be no rain. Bah ! ! The weather forecast for the rest of the week is just rain, rain and rain ! What to do ? Stay at home or just go despite the rain. I guess we will go and hope there will not be raining all over the country.

Later in the afternoon when the rain had stopped we went to buy some flower plants and as Steve lives nearby the garden center we went to visit him as he too is on vacation. Our bad luck . . . he was not at home. Once we were there and there are so many wonderful flowers in their garden I took some pictures. The background Viola is one. I spent the evening trying to make a new background of my own. I hope to learn how to make beautiful backgrounds. I guess the best way to find out how to is search on the net.

In the garden center there were also cute pigs made of cement. Of course hubby wanted to take a picture of Canelo and me sitting on one ! !

It really does not take you long to see why he was so eager – the colour, the shape
Have a nice week all – see you next week

Meeting Pauliina and Jami

On the way home from our friends Sanna and Christer we made a short stop to meet Pauliina and Jami as they live in Hämeenlinna too. Oh my gosh was Jami happy to meet us. Well I think he is welcoming everyone with kisses and "hugs". You really can see how happy it makes him to meet anyone. He is adorable. We went for a walk to check out the wonderful nature where Pauliina and Jami are making their daily tours. It was so nice seeing them both again as we had not met since sometimes end of September/beginning of October last year. OK . . . I had met Pauliina just briefly but it wasn’t more than just a hi.

Look how nice it is. The lake, the trees, the green grass  . . . i suppose it’s very beautiful in the winter as well. The very second I shot the picture Pauliina stepped out of the picture and both Jami and Canelo changed their position.

He is gorgeous.

Canelo enjoyed the visit.  Quam and Qusimo were happy to have us back home. Right after we got home our son also arrived. All of us very tired after the nice midsummer celebration and staying up almost all the night.

Midsummer 2007

Such A Fantastic Midsummer/Miten Loistava Juhannus/Vilken Strålande midsommar !
Such a fantastic midsummer we had at our wonderful friends Sanna and Christer. The weather was warm and sunny. Also Sanna’s sister Leena and her husband Rauli were there. It was the best midsummer in 100 years !
The next morning after the lunch we went to row the rowboat. I love it. I would like to have a rowboat. Canelo liked it too.
For the last 12- 15 years Leif and me, we have been too lazy for celebrating the midsummer. We just have stayed at home or if the weather’s been good we have walked to enjoy the midsummer bone fire down by the lake.

Left to right: Christer, Leif, Leena, Rauli and Sanna

Evening sun at about 10:30 PM

At midnight

Midsummer

This year we are invited to our good friends summer cottage to celebrate the Midsummer. Let’s hope the weather will be nice as the cottage is by a beautiful lake so we will be able to go to sauna bath and to swim. Once again there is something wrong with the camper so I really hope it will be fixed in time as we have planned to stay the night in Hämeenlinna.

Classic Motocross Cup 16.6.2007 Heinolassa

One more day at work before my vacation ! En dag till semestern.

Greetings From Amsterdam

Day 1 2007-06-08

After a short, a little more that two hour, flight we stepped out the terminal to find out it was WARM. My goodness; + 35 degrees Celsius ! Nevertheless “people” wanted to make the about 3 km long distance from the hotel down town to go visit the “center” (the purposes of our trip) just by walking. Luckily we also had about 3 h of time so we were able to walk slowly, make stops, have something to drink etc. The “center” we visited really was interesting. We all were eyes/ears open and made many questions. Well then everybody wanted to also walk back ! Only . . . I had to give it up and take the tram ! I felt bad about it . . . like bit of cheating. In the evening we, all together, went out for dinner. When walking back to the hotel we could see there would be a terrible thunder any minute. Some of us got to the hotel before the thunderstorm kind of exploded. The rain was heavy. The hotel rooms were as warm as saunas but we all managed to get some sleep anyhow.

Day 2 2007-06-09

At 8:30 AM after a couple of mugs of coffee, toasts, egg, juice etc I was ready to go explore Amsterdam on my own. After some thinking I thought the about 3 km long walk yesterday down town had not, after all been, so bad so I decided to make the same walk again . . . now taking the time to take pictures and do whatever came into my mind. I stayed out on my own all day and had a wonderful time. I visited the Van Gogh Museum and the Diamond Museum. I strolled looking at flowers at the floating flower market. I had lunch at the Hans and Grejtien Restaurant where I just was enjoying the canal views, all the people, (many tourists) the amount of bikes, the lunch . . . everything.

In the evening we all (except 3 who still were out biking, they made a 50 km long tour) had dinner together. The dinner was a success compared to the dinner the evening before when some, unfortunately, had chosen some dishes they found out were too strange for them. After the dinner I thought a canal cruise would be nice. It turned out the others were not that interested so I told them not to worry I will do it by myself. Then two more decided to go with me on the 90 minute cruise. As we did not make it for the 9 o’clock PM tour we took the 10 PM tour. It turned out it was much more nice as it got more dark and all the illuminated bridges, buildings, boats were so beautiful in the evening. The boat was moving slowly down the canals almost without any sound of the motor. Oh I liked it. Unfortunately . . . and I knew it . . . my pictures would be no good at all. Just had to delete each and every one! We were back in the hotel at about midnight.

Day 3 2007-06-10

Next morning after breakfast five of us left to visit the Anne Frank Museum. We, again, went down town, this time by tram, to buy some tickets in order to avoid standing in line as the line, the day before, had been really a looong one. Bad luck . . . we got no tickets so if we wanted to go there we would have to stand line and buy the tickets right there. OK . . . off we went. The line actually was moving on very well and in no time at all we had our tickets and were able to see the place Anne, her family and the other four persons had been able to stay hidden in for so long. It all was just like she had written it in her diary. You could see it made people feel sad and bad about all that happened back then.

We still had many hours before we had to go back to the hotel so we all went to the floating flower market. I bought some tulip bulbs. It will be exciting to see if they will bloom next spring. I hope they will.

At 4 PM we all gathered at the hotel to go to the airport. We arrived at Helsinki airport at 10:26 PM. Leif and Canelo were there to meet me. Canlo was soooo happy to see me and vice verse.

Amsterdam

Amsterdam . . . here we come ! Friday morning I am going to Amsterdam with my colleagues. We are a group of 10 persons. We are going to visit/bench mark a "center" in Amsterdam working in the same field we do. Hopefully to get some useful, good, new, fresh ideas.

I would have loved to go to Amsterdam during the tulip season in the early spring but as it’s not the right time for the tulip fields now I hope to be able to visit the Tulip Museum. There I can also buy some tulip bulbs and some other bulbs to plant in the fall to bloom next spring.

We, Leif and I, were in The Netherlands and Amsterdam in 1974. We visited Madame Tussaud’s, we took a canal and harbor tour. We actually saw our very first pizza there and had our very first espresso ! ! The flower market was beautiful. I had never seen as many flowers in my entire life.

I’m glad I have the opportunity to go there once more and am very much looking forward to see if I can recall anything after so many years.

Take care folks . . . see you next week !

Back From Our Tour

Well . . . we are back We did not go to Mariehamn but took the Archipelago Circle, Saariston rengastie.
Emme sitten tällä reissulla menneet Maariahaminaan vaan “tehtiin saariston rengas” josta olin kuullutkin joskus mutta mistä en tiennyt sen enempää. Kannatti.
The weather was warm but the first two days were mostly gray and cloudy with some little rain by and by and we could see some lighting in the distance as well as hear the thunder. Nice thing was when we stopped for lunch in Nagu the sun was shining. We sat on the cafeteria’s terrace and enjoyed the lunch and views. We walked down to the harbour and found out we actually had been there before. It was about 15 years ago when we took an other tour on a ship named Klara. After about the 3 hours stoppe in Nagy we continued to Houtskär via Korpo and Norrskata. Norrskata acutally by mistake. I saw the ferry would leave in a couple of minutes so we justed drove aboard thinking it was the Houtskär ferry . . . but nope it went to and other island.
After just and just catching the last ferry for the day back to Korpo we were lucky to make it on the last one to Houtskär that evening. We arrived to the island Mossala “camping” where we stayed for two nights. It was nice. The next morning happened a crazy thing . . . actually pretty typical to Leif. Leif, for some reason, decided to roll out the camper’s marquess. IT GOT STOCKED ! Many of the other campers came over to try to help and give some good advice. After 3 hours of hard work it turned out there was nothing else to do than take the thing apart and cut the marquess off and throw everything away ! ! Heh-heh. Then we were already very hungry and wanted some lunch. We drove 16 km back to the little village Näsby. Once again . . . we were lucky as the sun was shining the time we spent there. We were having lunch in a restaurant down in the guest harbour. Next morning was wonderful. The sun shining from a clear blue sky. We took the 9 o’clock ferry to Iniö. It was a 50 min. tour so we had coffee on the ferry. After a short stop in Iniö we continued on the ferry Iniö-Gustavs. The archpelago was at it’s best really. Blue sky, blue sea. It was bautiful. Also the views from Gustavs via Villnäs-Nådendal to Åbo were beautiful.
Wishing You All A Wonderful Weekend !
